SHOOTING SHOPS for KIRKWOOD HOSPICE
Recently I was asked by Kirkwood Hospice to photograph a selection of their charity shops prior to them re opening following the Corvid19 lockdown.
Why do this now you may ask?
Well for two main reasons. Firstly, with the shops being closed for a long period of time it has given the hospice time to restock, clean & organise the shops so basically at the this point in time they look their best. What a great opportunity to carry out some promotional photography prior to reopening.
Secondly Kirkwood Hospice wished to ensure members of the public that it was doing everything it could to ensure their premises were safe for their staff to work in and just as importantly to ensure it was safe for customers to shop.
This of course meant that I was to document the fact that all anti corona measures where in place. These measures included social distancing guides marked out on the floor of shops, health & safety signage displayed, sneeze screens in place and that hand sanitiser was freely available.
Kirkwood have a total of 21 Charity Shops located around Kirklees & the Huddersfield area and I was tasked with photographing three of them to get an idea of the type of products on sale, shop layout, staff in action and anti-corona measures in place. Photographing any more shops than this would have simply been overkill. The shops I visited included Waterloo, Kirkburton and Almondbury.
Kirkwood’s shops sell a fantastic range of clothes, accessories, books, toys and much more and their friendly teams are always on hand to help you with either your donations or purchases.
Are they accepting donations of goods?
It should be noted that not all shops have re-opened just yet as Kirkwood are carrying out a phased reopening but the ones that are can accept donations again. However, to ensure both the safety of customers & staff they have several safety measures in place. These include quarantining all donated items for 72 hours which may mean they are not able to take donations at some shops at certain times as they have limited storage space. So best to try calling prior to a visit.
Kirkwood Hospice helps to improve the lives of people affected by any life limiting illness, supporting them to improve their quality of life. With the public's support Kirkwood’s shops help raise over £2 million each year which helps enormously with this effort.
Hopefully, the photography I have produced will lead to greater awareness of the Kirkwood Hospice Shops and the work of the hospice.
